Randy was going to run in the New York City marathon, and I got invited to go along. I'd never been to NYC, so I was pretty jazzed.
So, We (Randy, Erin, Cindy [Randy's sister], and myself) drove out through the day, and made it to Mara & Billy's place. The next morning we met up with Rebecca, and went to this crazy pancake house. Plates simply couldn't keep up.
Here's Rebecca, Cindy, Me, and Erin. I have terrible posture.
Subway! Also, I've decided I look awesome in my jacket.
We exited the subway under Madison Square Garden, and looked out to see the big city.
30 Rock! In the big city!
We're now walking toward the Empire State building.
We're now up on the top of the Empire State Building. The view is fantastic.
Here's me, not smiling.
Manhattan!
Me taking pictures.
This is a building of some sort... near other buildings.
It's hard to describe the size of the city. "Big" seems like a start.
So these tall buildings go on forever.
More views.
Time Square is down there somewhere.
More. Big.
Central Park is there in the upper left.
Randy is taking in the view... he ended up getting stuck and we had to just leave him there. ... but no not really.
Here's the view straight down.
Here we all are, on top of the Empire State Building.
Looking up at the top.
Here I appear to be upset about how amazing the view is. More likely, I was cold, and don't smile in photos.
So I took a ton of pictures, and then I patched a few together to make this panorama. New York City!
Back down the elevator, and here's the big plaque.
Ron @ the Empire State building.
And again.
We began to tour the city. Here's the Library on 40th. Now note the Roman Numerals. 1902. I ended up reading up on this for a while afterwards, because I know that's not the common way to write 1902 (MCMII). Turns out, the standard didn't become the standard until recently. According to my research: "In medieval Latin the full form of the numeral was written out as often as the abbreviation" You've just been served... knowledge!
Here's 30 Rock... also, an example of how light screws up a panorama.
Here's the set of the Today show.
30 Rockafeller Plaza!
No Tina Fey, though.
Here's the Ice Rink.
Prometheus!
Ron @ 30 Rock.
Time Square!
Here's a nice shot of 30 Rock.
Me again.
Looks like Deltek was just added to the Nasdaq, and these business people were excited. We were too, until we found out they were just business people from Deltek.
Here's how I found out.
Erin at Time Square.
Nighttime, and we headed to see Curtains, a show starring David Hyde Pierce.
Randy and Erin after the show. The show was good. Look, they're grinning when they hit the street!
It's the next day, and we took a walk to the Business district. They were doing some shoot for something... and having a rough time keeping peole out of their way.
Ron @ Wall Street!
I found Waldo! But no.. this is the area they wanted to do the movie/tv show shoot stuff... so these dudes just keep jumping up and screwing things up.
And here's a church.
Wall Street.
Randy and Erin on Wall Street.
Blue hair! Adorable!
So here Cindy and I interrupt the shoot. Woot!
Here's Ground Zero. They're making progress.
More Ground Zero.
More Ground Zero work.
Ron @ the Statue of Liberty.
Statue of Liberty.
Here's a look back at the city from the Ferry.
You can see the gap on the left.
another shot.
Ron on the Ferry.
I took this shot cause it kinda reminded me of Physical Graffiti by Led Zepplin. Not a ton, mind you.. it's really just fire escapes.
Here we are on the day of the Marathon. We're currently by the Natural History Museum.
Those people have hot dogs on their head.
Here's Randy Running. The dude in front of him appears to be having issues.
Here's Randy again.. with Erin waving.
Lots of people running.
Randy and Erin running.
Runners
Cute.
While we were walking through Central Park to get to another spot along the marathon, we stopped to take in the view. Here's Erin and me.
Bikes go first, I believe.
Here's one of the places we stood waiting for Randy. We also got free Hot Chocolate, which was awesome.
It went from one every once in a while all the way to a packed street...
And there's Randy again.
And here we are standing in the crowd.
Runners.
More runners.
And here's Randy once it was all over.
Congratulations Randy!
