My Trip to the UK and Ireland, Day 6

Here we are at the train station.. Today was going to be our big travel day, so we got here bright and early, and we were looking for a train from Edinburgh to Glasgow. Also, Starbucks was everywhere.

We're now in Glasgow. The sky was a bit gray, but we had some time to blow... so we started walking around the town. Eventually we walked by this building, which looked really weird. This box of windows just jutted awkwardly out of the otherwise stale blue.

Back that way is the train station. It started to drizzle a bit around now.

We walked for a bit, and hit George('s?) Square: A big, open square with a number of statues and war memorials.

Back on the train, and there are sheep everywhere. Watching them run around was fun.. They really seemed to be having a good time out there.

The scenery was amazing.

Hills and mountains like the everywhere. It was beautiful.

This is what Michigan is really missing: Tall green mountains.

When I saw this, I was excited. I kinda assumed the whole "long winding stone walls" thing wasn't really real.. like it was something that they had hear and there, but nothing big.... But in parts of Scotland, and then all of Ireland had these walls running everywhere. It just looked so quaint and .... I dunno.. like we were back in the middle ages or something.

And all of a sudden: BAM, we're surrounded by water. We were headed to the ferry to Belfast, and this train went right out to the end of the pier.

Here we are, having just arrived on the ferry/mini-luxery cruise boat. to the left is the a bar and a restaurant, the arcade is straight ahead, along with a gift shop and what appeared to be a mini casino, and behind is two more bars.

Robb got some food, and it came with some mashed peas. It looked disgusting.

I kinda thought our ferry would look something like this one here.. Small, kinda cramped, and filled with cargo or something. I was wrong. Woot for being wrong.

Here's another ferry, a bit more similar to ours. They were the "fast ferry" type.

We're now walking to the train station at Belfast. When we got off the Ferry, and went to ask for directions, the worker had just completed telling this other backpacker how to get there.. so he pointed to him and said "Follow him.. if he gets lost, you all get lost." So we joined up with him. His name was Thomas, and he was from Norway, but now living in Dublin, going to school I believe. I started to take a picture of Thomas, who is on the left with the backpack with many patches. but as I was taking a picture, I was distracted by the cutie crossing the street.

Here's Robb, Joel, and Thomas. We're still on our way to the train station. It ended up being a bit of a hike to get there.

This sign I found funny. Everywhere else, people are drinking like fish.. then we get to Ireland, and suddenly it's against the law.

Off in the distance is a sweet looking castle-church thinger.

Here's our hostel we ended up with in Dublin. I was quite certain I was taking a picture of the place where I would soon be murdered by Russians... but it was not to be. We stayed here 3 nights, and I got the big bed.

There was this giant tower/spire thing in downtown Dublin.. called The Dublin Spire. I was finished in 2003. It was very tall.

I like this picture. We walked around Dublin for a bit at night, and paused on the bridge to take this shot of the city at night. I like how the lights seem to bleed into the water
