I rate games.

TJ+E was such a good game, but SO impossible to beat. I've got a ROM of it that I play from time to time, but it's wicked hard.

An excellent list indeed. Glad to see Airborne Ranger on it--that game was way ahead of its time.

Do I note that you've placed Windwaker above Ocarina of Time? That surprises me, knowing your love for OoT. What about Windwaker pushed it above Ocarina? Or is the list not in any particular order?

Also, no Super Mario Brothers 3? Or are you not a huge fan of the Mario Brothers games?

Adam -> Toe Jam & Earl is indeed hard... very, very hard. I bought the game for Genesis when I was in 8th Grade, and I've still not beaten it. My friend Matt Holwerda and I would play it quite a bit, and got to the final level, with only 1 piece remaining, but the Boogie Men on that level completely wasted us.... and since there's no save option or continues, the 4 hours it took to reach that point was all for naught. We didn't really try to play it again after that.


Andy -> Yes indeed, Windwaker is above Ocarina of Time.. but just barely. And I will admit, having not taken out the final guy, some of it is based on faith (Faith that the final guy won't completely blow... ala Starfox Adventures.) I'll likely blog about the game itself later, but my reasoning is something like this:
1.) Windwaker is just so much bigger.
2.) The Camera mobility in Windwaker is what I think they were shooting for in OoT, but just couldn't do. For that reason, playing Windwaker just flows naturally.. there's very few times when you get frustrated because you can't quite do/see what you were trying to do/see.
3.) The graphics are just amazing. I thought OoT was amazing for it's time, but now looking at it, they just pale, and that's to be expected, certainly.
4.) Windwaker is new, and I'm still entralled with it.
When Ocarina of Time came out, I loved it, and it quickly became my favorite game. It wasn't until recently that I looked back and thought that the original still stands as being my overall favorite game.. Odds are the same thing will happen with Windwaker.. In a few months I'll probably look back and decide that Ocarina really ought to be #2. ...
Hrm.. if I re-ordered my list today it would go:
1, 4, 2, 3, 8, 5, 6, 7, 10, Jedi Knight 1.


Doug -> I can think of no game [except perhaps Columns 3] that so many people enjoyed so much, and caused so many people to hate me. Super Bomberman battles at the Calvin Apts. or my house in Zeeland were pure gaming nirvana.

Any game exciting enough to cause my wife to call me penis in front of your dad is a good game indeed.

This also explains why we have given away all of our video game sytems.

Doug -> Withou question one of the funniest moments I've been a part of. The Boulderdash game with you, your wife, Jeff, Waldo, & Nate is also in that list.

Adam -> There's just too much "cheapness" in beating a game in a fashion the gamemakers didn't intend... Part of the challenge is beating the game within the guidelines that the programmers set up... if that means no saving/passwords, then I can't save state.

hey ron - great list! i'm also quite surprised to see Windwaker above Ocarina of Time in your list. it will be interesting to see if you feel the same way after you finish the game and let it sink in for a while. i ashamed to say that i have not yet played metroid for GC but promise i will when i have time someday.
by the way, where's the love for Goldeneye for N64. did it not even make it on your favorite multiplayer game list? shame on you. i can not imagine how many hours of my life i wasted playing goldeneye with sven & others during college.

Adam -> Having beaten it now, I'm curious as to how much of the second quest is different. If there's a significant amount that's new/changed around, that'd be a big plus for Windwaker. If there's very little different, then I think my revised order would be more accurate.

As for Goldeneye... I sucked at that game, and got into it too late for it to be one of my favorites. Perfect Dark, on the other hand, was on my list.. sitting somewhere about 17 or 18.... but then I cut the last 5 off.:

airborne ranger was indeed a cool game. My friend got a second disk drive, so he didn't have to swap disks in the middle just for that game.
