What the hell were you thinking?

Overheard at the coffee shop:

Trivia board question: "How many US States border the Pacific Ocean?"

Girl (17 or 18 years old) at the counter: I think the answer is 19.

I guessed 4 but i forgot about Hawaii. Silly little islands, hid by the earth's belt.

I was guessing the thought was getting Atlantic mixed up with Pacific. But... even if you took both sides... 19? Maybe bordering on any water at all, then you get 19.
