Eyes and Lasers (Aka : The Sum of All Fears)

[Explanation: I'm sitting in the ophthalmology office. Kristin is getting the laser eye surgery right now as I type this. I'm doing some work, but I left this little sticky note open because there's just too much weird stuff going on, and I knew you'd appreciate it.]

First off, there’s a elderly couple in here. The old dude has a patch over one eye. For the past half hour he’s been frantically trying to get a hold of his son at Steelcase. Their understanding of technology (in terms of how phones work, and what private / personal number vs 1-888-STEELCASE numbers are is a bit lacking. e.g. “I couldn’t get him on his personal extension, but it says to call this Toll Free number. Maybe he’s there.) Anyway, they just did get a hold of his son, and he was explaining what was wrong with him. The terms “eye leakage” and “cutting two sections from the eye” were used. I threw up in my mouth. Seriously, that’s nasty.

Also, I’m watching a doctor, a secretary, and an elderly receptionist struggle to figure out how to print… they finally got it working… only to print off legal forms onto envelope labels, which were still in the printer instead of normal paper.. They were not pleased… but laughed it off. Then the studio audience laughed, and they cut to commercial.

An Observation: People walking in to this office are, for the most part, very scared. They act nervous around the desk.. unsure of what exactly they are supposed to say. That might just be a “people in a doctor’s office” thing.. but I didn’t notice it nearly as much when I was going to my knee appointments. (Also note, my knee is doing awesome. I am very pleased) Anyway, this whole thing makes a lot of sense to me [beyond the obvious eye phobia]. A broken arm or leg, you kinda assume that you’re own body is gonna pull its weight in making sure that gets fixed.. and you feel a bit separated from the injury.. Like, if my leg hurts, I can look down and say “yeah, that’s what hurts” But with your eye.. I’d think you’d be afraid that that kinda injury is not going to fix itself. It’s too delicate.. and too important to feel casual about. Also, you can’t look at it to see if it’s okay.. Also, it’s disgusting.

“All I need is your body” It was just said, and I almost giggled.

Epilogue: Kristin‘s surgery went very well, and she rested at my place the rest of the evening… cheating at least once, when she tried to watch a little TV, and got caught by me… so I described what was going on for The Office and My Name is Earl. We headed back to the doctor the next morning (Today) and all appears well so far. Huzzah!

We’re Cooking!

As many of you already know, Swac and Mandace are getting married this summer! As a result (as many of you already know), Robb and I will be losing a roommate. As a result (as many of you already know) I’ve started looking into buying a house sometime this fall! As a result (as many of you already know) I’ve instituted a strict budget to save up money for the down-payment and expenses related to a house purchase (and I also set up a 403b retirement plan, which hopefully will eventually actually have money put into it.

[An Aside: I am of the opinion that people everywhere ought to make it as easy as possible to do things that are in everyone's best interest. Example: a retirement fund. A retirement fund is a good idea. I should want to have one, and other people should want to help get one established, and have money put into it. People who make these things so difficult that the majority of people will simply give up rather than getting said fund established are hurting this world, rather than helping it.]

Anyway… As a result (as many of you already know) Rachel and I have begun cooking meals quite a bit more. I (as all of you already know) take a lot of pictures. So go ahead and check out some of the meals Rachel and I have made lately:

The Subtle Infestation of Color.

I was cleaning and organizing my closet the other day, and decided to try something. The results were noticeable, but not at all surprising:

clothes before rachel
This is the majority of my wardrobe (sans T-shirts) I had before I met Rachel.

clothes after rachel
Here (save for a few on the far right) we have my clothes I’ve purchased or received after Rachel and I started hanging out.

RC Cars: The Finale

Well, rather than just abandon my blog and let it get taken over by freaks, geeks, and racists, I’ll try to start updating more regularly. I’ve got a number of pictures on my camera that I really ought to get posted on the site, so I started with the final RC Car shots. Rachel finished her car a while back, and it looks spectacular. Check it out:

RC Mini Cooper

Here’s both of our cars:
RC Mini Cooper and Raybrig NSX

So the cars are done, and now that it’s really nice out, it’s time to drive them around, I think.

Good Things Are Happening

I’m sitting here (in my snazzy new black and white 3/4 sleeve baseball T-shirt) watching the first baseball game of the regular season: Indians vs. White Sox (Go Tribe). It’s a good day. A lot of good things have been happening. Well, a lot of things in general have been happening. So here’s where I talk about those things.

First off, Joel and Leslie got married last Friday. The wedding was wonderful, and the reception was a lot of fun. Dave and I remarked that the reception kinda was like a Gospelcom reunion from 3-5 years ago. It was great to see people like Peter and Alan there, along with other good friends I’ve not seen in a long time… the list could get very long, so I’m just going to say it was great to see everyone, and hang out with them before, during, and after the wedding (Founders was very fun). So congratulations Joel and Leslie, have fun on your honeymoon, and Joel, I hope you didn’t save all your IM logs.

For those of you that didn’t know, if you spill liquids on your keyboard, You can probably clean it by taking it apart, and putting the plastic parts in the dishwasher. If you’re lucky, the keys will all be attached, and you won’t have to remove and replace each one individually… unless you have a Mac.

April Fools Day is an interesting day. But if you rely on the Internet for most of your information, then April Fools Day is one of the most annoying days of the year. It had become more and more common for every information site on the Internet to include at least one, if not many, many stories that are completely made up. Now, a joke is one thing. I like the April Fools stuff that Google does. They are harmless, and kinda clever, and don’t get in the way of what you are seeking to do. But other sites (I’m looking at you video game sites) fill their sites with so much false information (and most of it is just so very lame that it’s neither funny nor clever) that it’s no longer worth it to even read the site for that day. I was happy that April 1 was a Saturday, because when it’s a weekday, it is really, really annoying. So in short, “Please stop”. It’s no longer funny, it’s just annoying. Especially in the video game/Internet area, there’s already so much stuff that’s made up and fake, we don’t need you, the “truth tellers”, purposely making up stuff too.

Fantastic, it’s been 2.3 innings, and the Indians best pitcher is hurt. Baseball!

Homerun! 3-3!

Rain.. boo

Game on! (it’s 12:15)

Jim Thome is good

Anyway, in closing: Things are good!
